Newcastle-Stockton
Ferry Service |
Newcastle has one government ferry service between
Newcastle and the northern suburb of Stockton. Even though the two
wharves are very close and one wharf can be seen from the other, the
ferry is the quickest way to travel between the two suburbs as the road
route is very indirect.
Unlike the Sydney ferry services, there are no ticket
machines. All tickets are purchased on board and return tickets are not
available.
At first
glance, I thought that I was at Newcastle's ferry wharf watching
Newcastle ferry "Shortland" with a locked gate to
prevent access. This wharf is actually the ferry depot. 14 July
2001. |

On 15 July 2001, I visited Stockton
Wharf, one end of the Newcastle-Stockton ferry service. The
Newcastle ferry "Hunter" had just left Stockton
with the Newcastle wharf in sight the whole time. With the help of
my 300mm lens, I captured these shots of the ferry halfway during
a trip.
